Mary Spears-Mitchell was born Mary Lee Spears on August 17, 1939, in Woodville, Mississippi. She was the oldest of seven children born to the late Marvette Spears and the late Lillian Powell-Spears. Mary transitioned from this life to live eternally with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age 84.
She was the beloved mother to Francetta (Fran) Taylor, Yolanda Taylor, and George William Brown. Also, an awesome grandmother to Taylor Bennett, Kelsey Davis, and Uraeus Millet with one great-grandson, Luke Dysart.
Mary graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1960. She loved life to the fullest even up to her last days. She loved cooking for family and friends to gather in her home. She joined the Duchess Club Inc. in 2013. She loved traveling, cruising, experiencing different restaurants, and driving large vehicles including eighteen wheelers.
“Mary Lee”, as she was affectionately called, is deeply loved by three surviving sisters, Neomia Spears, Mamie Spears-Paul, and Florence Spears-Williams as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvette Spears, and Lillian Powell-Spears, her siblings, Arthur Spears, LaSalle Spears, and Carolyn Spears-Quest.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, April 27, 2024, beginning at 10:00 am followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 am at Tharp Funeral Home, 1600 N.
